Ved stranden 14 in Copenhagen - a listed property that breathes naturally
Ved stranden 14 is a listed mansion located across the water from the Danish parliament, Christiansborg. The mansion was originally built as a merchant's house but today offices reside behind the old walls. The extensive modernization and the new decor were designed by architectural firm Krydsrum A/S and Ekolab consulting engineers.

Focus on Restoration and Energy Consumption Minimization
In connection with the restoration of the building, natural ventilation was installed with a view to energy improvements and indoor climate optimization. And areas with large spatial depths were fitted with additional extraction. Natural ventilation was fitted in project rooms, meeting areas, the reception, and offices, with a total of 40 ventilation zones across five floors. Quite extraordinarily, the office building owner requested the installation of cooling units in all 40 climate zones to be able to maintain a cool temperature - even on very hot days.
"As the very beautiful and old building Ved Stranden 14 is a listed building, construction changes or installation of ducts are not allowed. But with natural ventilation in optimized interaction with the other installations, we were able to achieve an energy optimized indoor climate solution.”

Natural Ventilation In the Existing Windows
The ventilation openings are the existing windows with two window actuators for each ventilation opening- one on the existing side-hinged part and one on the inner double window. The windows are controlled by the NV Advance® which also controls the mechanical extraction and the 40 cooling units.
